Cecal volvulus: a case report

چکیده
found distended abdomen with sluggish bowel sounds and loaded rectum. On further evaluation with Xray, abdomen supine showed dilated small-bowel loops [Figure 1]. Hence, initially paralytic ileus was suspected. Patient was treated conservatively and was observed for the next 24 h. Patient was found to deteriorate with progressive symptoms and increasing abdominal girth (from 76 to 84 cm). Thus, patient was evaluated with contrast-enhanced computer tomography (CECT) abdomen, which showed grossly dilated cecum with closedloop obstruction [Figures 2 and 3]. Patient was taken up for emergency laparotomy for acute intestinal bowel obstruction, and we found freely mobile and Cecal volvulus is an infrequently encountered clinical condition and an uncommon cause of intestinal obstruction. Patients with this condition may present with highly variable clinical presentations ranging from intermittent, self-limiting abdominal pain to acute abdominal pain associated with intestinal strangulation and sepsis. We present here a case of 54-year-old woman presented to our medical department with left hemiparesis and later on developed intestinal obstruction. She went for series of radiological investigations and was diagnosed as cecal volvulus. She underwent right hemicolectomy and ileocolic anastomosis. Her recovery was uneventful. The lack of familiarity with this condition is a factor contributing to delays in diagnostic and treatment. The objective of this review was to promote clinicians’ awareness of this disease through patient–case illustration, discussion of disease pathogenesis, clinical features, and management strategies.

Co-existence of cecal volvulus with situs inversus totalis: A case report
Detorsion, cecopexy, cecostomy and tube cecostomy are the treatment options for acute cecal volvulus if there is no intestinal ischemia. Resection required if intestinal viability, necrosis, gangrene or perforation exists. After resection, primary anastomosis or ileostomy can be performed. First colonoscopic decompression testing may be appropriate in terms of saving time for elective surgery. ...
متن کاملSingle-site laparoscopic right hemicolectomy for acute cecal volvulus: a case report
BACKGROUND Cecal volvulus is an uncommon cause of acute abdomen in patients. Cecal volvulus is currently treated mostly with right hemicolectomy with laparotomy, which is an invasive surgical procedure. Less invasive techniques, such as endoscopic decompression, have a poor success rate. CASE PRESENTATION We report a case of cecal volvulus in a 35-year-old male patient. He was successfully tr...
متن کاملImages of Cecal Volvulus From a Strangulating Fallopian Tube: A Case Report
UNLABELLED An unusual case of cecal volvulus arising from a strangulating fallopian tube is presented. The etiology, diagnosis, and management guidelines of this infrequent cause of large bowel obstruction are reviewed. Computed tomography images are included, which demonstrate key features that are pathognomonic for this condition. To our knowledge, this is the first report of gynecologic adne...
متن کاملCecal volvulus associated with mobile cecum in Cornelia de Lange syndrome: Report of a case
We report a case of cecal volvulus in an 11-year-old girl who had been diagnosed with Cornelia de Lange syndrome. She had undergone operative fundoplication several years earlier and was referred to our institute for treatment of intestinal obstruction. A severely dilated colon was detected on abdominal roentgenogram, and abdominal CT and colonic enema strongly suggested cecal volvulus. Emergen...
متن کاملA Case of Cecal Volvulus Presenting with Chronic Constipation in Lissencephaly
Cecal volvulus is uncommon in pediatric patients and there are few reports of cecal volvulus with cerebral palsy. Here, we report the case of a 19-year-old male patient who presented with abdominal distension, a history of cerebral palsy, refractory epilepsy due to lissencephaly, and chronic constipation. An abdominal x-ray and computed tomography without contrast enhancement showed fixed dilat...
متن کاملCecal Volvulus Following Elective Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy: A Case Report.
Cecal volvulus is characterized by torsion of the cecum around its own mesentery. However, cecal volvulus rarely develops soon after elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy. We report on a case of cecal volvulus that developed in a 54-year-old women 1 day after elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy and was successfully treated via colonoscopic decompression. The symptoms gradually improved in con...
